On 9 January 2015, President Obama announced the America’s Promise College Plan, which makes two years of community college “free” for students who attend at least half time, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and make steady progress towards a degree. First, the tuition that is free for the student must be funded from somewhere, whether taken directly from the productive members of society via new taxes now or stolen from society as a whole via inflation to fund the deficit. I’m not foolish enough to think that anyone would actually make a cut somewhere to fund it. Second, the fact that students must maintain a 2.5 GPA may cause students to work harder to keep their subsidized status, but it will also surely cause schools to be more lenient in grading . After all, the instructor who gives a student less than an 80 threatens the very tuition the instructor and school depend on.
The Robin Hoods of Keene, New Hampshire, have saved residents over $80,000 in parking fines.
The Robin Hoods place a coin into expired parking meters before the “parking enforcers” get there and leave a card notifying the car’s owner that they have been “saved from the king’s tariffs” and encouraging them to “pay it forward”. The Merry Men and Women can usually be seen walking directly in front of the “parking enforcer” and feeding the meters before they can be checked. Motorists who could not be saved in time receive a flyer that discusses fighting parking tickets. That flyer is posted here, and is a valuable resource for anyone with a ticket.
